Spring Up Already!

So it’s the middle of January in Toronto and I’ve just about had it with this weather.  At least there’s no snow on the ground.  But man do I hate bundling up! Double socks, long underwear, sweater layers and a big honking jacket. Spring, spring up already! Unfortunately it’s only January and I have another month and a half left of this cold.  In the meantime, these are some Spring trends i’m excited about in the coming season.

Bohemian Rhapsody – long, draped, loose silhouettes with psychadelic patterns and floral prints.  I’ve always believed I’ve had an inner flower child.  She just doesn’t show up often.

Cropped Power Suit – palazzo style bottoms and matching blazers, cuffed and wide or slim and tapered.  Anyone that knows me knows I love menswear inspo and it never seams to disappear from the runways.

Suede – a touch of 70’s, majoring in trench coats, a-line skirts and bootcut trousers.  I usually side suede with Autumn but this is a nice change for Spring.  It’s the perfect fabric for that in between weather – light enough for daytime sunshine, warm enough for the cooling nights.

Denim – dresses, coats, pants, jumpsuits; embellished, laced-up. I mean, everyone loves a Canadian Tuxedo right? Hands up for those who still rock the tuxedo!

Floral – much bolder in print than previous seasons.  I give it an edge with by mixing in different textures.

Bare the Midriff – evening wear with a twist; make it a two piece and still keep it lady like with a full skirt.

Fringe Fest – create movement with every step. I used to shred old denim and t-shirts as a teenager to look edgy; not to mention it’s the ultimate festival go to item.

Falling into Style

It’s officially Fall, my favourite season of the year!  The endless amount of layering, mix and matching, leathering details, plaid, denim get ups, shoe game update – I could go on.  It’s the colours.  They get me every time.  I mean I love summer, I’m originally from a country where summer is all year long, but the rustic colours never disappoint me.  From plum to orange to burgundy to forest green.  From leather and lace accents.  From cozy knits and fun toques.  Boots.  Omg the shoe game for fall though?  Don’t get me started.

I feel like Fall brings out the real fashionista in me and I find myself playing around a lot more with different textures and patterns.

On this beautiful day I decided to go casual yet stay chic.  A floral tank layered under a leather jacket (not seen) paired with simple dark denim and white Chucks.  Perfect for running errands or walking around downtown.
